Dick Smyly was born in 1972 and won the Senior Art Prize at both Ludgrove Prep School and Eton College. He went on to study portraiture at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence.

Since his return to Britain in 1994, he has successfully completed over two hundred commissions, which are now hanging in private collections across Britain and Europe.

He also paints sporting wildlife paintings and still lifes, and had a sell out show of these at Will's Art Warehouse in London in 2001.

He also paints houses in Britain and abroad.

He has exhibited at The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition.

He was trained in the classical tradition and paints in oils from life.
